Professor Philip J Johnson has been Chair of
Translational Oncology at the University of Liverpool since 2012. He worked as: Senior
Lecturer and Assistant Director in the Liver Unit at King's College Hospital; Professor
of Clinical Oncology and Head of Department of the Chinese University of Hong
Kong; Visiting professor at the Johns Hopkins University
School of Medicine; Chair of Oncology and Translational Research; Director
of the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit at the University of Birmingham.
His work on liver cancer has ranged widely from the
clinical application of biomarkers to the development of selective
Intra-arterial Radiotherapy (SIR) in the early 1990s. He is currently working
on large international clinical datasets of over 200,000 cases, and
parallelly developing serological models, such as ‘GALAD’, which has recently
been awarded breakthrough device designation status by the FDA.
He has over 700 publications and over 35,000
citations and he received The Nelson Fausto Award for Lifetime Contributions to
Liver Cancer Science in September 2018.
