Abstract:
In a recent couple of decade, macrolide-resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae have increased in in children and special consideration in careful epidemiological observation and treatment has been required. We experienced several large epidemics of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia after the emergence of macrolide-resistant strains especially in east Asia. In addition, with the worldwide epidemic of COVID-19, the epidemic of mycoplasma pneumoniae infection has disappeared due to world-wide infection control measures in the society, however there may be some concern that a major epidemics of infections in children including Mycoplasma pneumoniae will occur after the COVID-19 epidemics subsides in the future. I think that we need to standardize treatment for Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection and I will mainly focus on our successful experience in Japanese guideline for the management of respiratory tract infection for children.
