Prof. Antoine Adamantidis is a Professor of System Neurophysiology in the Dept of Neurology at the University of Bern and the Director of the Zentrum Fur Experimentale Neurologie. Prof. A. Adamantidis’s research aims at investigating the wiring, dynamics and plasticity of the neural circuits regulating sleep and sleep oscillations using optogenetics in mice. His laboratory identified hypothalamic circuits controlling arousal and REM sleep, theta rhythm and thalamic contribution to slow waves during NREM sleep. He has received several awards including the Pfizer Research Award, the R. Broughton Young Investigator Award (Canadian Sleep Society), NIH-K99/R00 (USA), NARSAD and Sleep Research Society Young Investigator Award (USA). His work is funded by the European Research Council and the Swiss National Science Foundation.
